The Competition

Numerous liberal 501(c)(4) and 527 organizations are popping up around our state. These organizations, including Wellstone Action, Progressive Majority, Moveon.org Civil Action, and others are partnering with the established liberal organizations and the labor unions, pouring millions of dollars into Minnesota to help get ultra-liberal candidates elected, pledging to “take back” Minnesota.

Wellstone Action/Camp Wellstone
The Wellstone Alliance of the 1990s did not perish with the untimely death of U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone. The memorialization of Paul Wellstone manifests itself in Wellstone Action, a 501(c)(3) and affiliated 501(c)(4) non-profits dedicated to keeping his brand of radical liberalism alive and well.

Founded in 2003 and led by Wellstone’s former campaign manager, Wellstone Action has branched out into various political training enterprises – the most prominent being Camp Wellstone, a 2˝ day campaign school for candidates, campaign workers and grassroots activists.

TakeAction Minnesota
TakeAction Minnesota is a new organization formed from the merger of the Minnesota Alliance for Progressive Action and Progressive Minnesota. It is a broad-based coalition of liberal organizations and grassroots activists working statewide to build political power by effectively combining grassroots organizing, coalition-building, public policy advocacy and electoral work.

The coalition of radically liberal organizations includes multiple labor unions, environmental groups, and gay-rights advocacy organizations.

Moveon.org Civic Action
Moveon.org Civic Action is a 501(c)(4) non-profit dedicated to educating, training and organizing progressive grassroots activists to achieve liberal election victories.

In the past, Moveon.org Civic Action and its associated 527 political action arm have spent millions of dollars in Minnesota and around the nation opposing American involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq, President Bush’s tax cuts including repeal of the death tax, and trying to keep our judiciary system in the hands of the liberal elite.
